Its history dates back to the 1st millennium BC, making it one of Georgia's oldest cities. In addition to the remains of dwellings, the caves also contain a winery, a theater, and a place of worship, giving a glimpse into the prosperity of life at that time. In the Middle Ages, it flourished as a trading hub and is said to have played an important role as part of the Silk Road trade route. Walking through the passageways and plazas carved into the rock, I felt as if I had traveled back in time. Although it is now merely a ruin, it was deeply moving to think that people once lived here so long ago.
