【Czech Republic】St. Barbara's Church: A Cathedral in a Small Town

St. Barbara's Church is a Gothic building with features including pointed arches, ribbed vaults and flying buttresses. The interior stained glass, altar, pulpit and choir compartments are all highlights of the visit. The murals also depict the life and religious themes of the medieval mining town. The town gained wealth from the silver mines, which led to its prosperity. The construction of the church was interrupted several times due to wars and other reasons. Although the work was resumed several times, the output of the silver mines on which the local residents relied had been declining and the residents did not have enough money to support the construction of the new church. Therefore, the scale of the church we see now is much smaller than the original plan. The entire project was not officially completed until 1905 when the roof was added.
