Hiji Falls

Hiji Falls is primarily known as Okinawa’s tallest waterfall, but during cherry blossom season, the hiking trail leading to the falls is lined with beautiful pink sakura. The combination of a jungle-like environment with cherry blossoms is something I hadn’t seen before, making this a truly unique hanami experience. The hike itself takes about 40–50 minutes and is relatively easy, with well-maintained wooden bridges and pathways. Along the way, I enjoyed the contrast between the delicate cherry blossoms and the dense green foliage of the forest. Reaching the waterfall at the end was rewarding, with the refreshing mist adding to the adventure. Since this is a nature spot rather than a park, it’s perfect for travelers who enjoy hiking and want to experience cherry blossoms in a completely different setting. Visiting in late January is ideal for catching both the blossoms and the full beauty of Hiji Falls.
