Once Majestic Kumamoto Castle

Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's top 100 castles. It was first built in 1607 under the supervision of the then feudal lord Kato Kiyomasa. Unfortunately, in 2016, Kumamoto was hit by a major earthquake, causing severe damage to the structures. The castle has since undergone extensive restoration work. The grounds of Kumamoto Castle are vast, but many areas are still under repair and not accessible to the public due to the earthquake. However, after several years of restoration, the main building of Kumamoto Castle, the Tenshukaku, has reopened.
