A Peaceful Day at Putuo Village
#traveldiaries
I decided to take a break from the busy city life and visit Putuo Village in Kulai, Johor. I had heard so much about its serene environment and beautiful bamboo forest, so I was excited to see it for myself.
The entrance to the village was marked by a colorful pathway. It was a perfect spot for taking photos, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures.
Walking further into the village, I came across the main temple. It was an impressive structure, housing the largest indoor statue of Guanyin in Southeast Asia. The atmosphere inside the temple was calm and peaceful. I spent some time there, turning prayer wheels and drinking holy mountain spring water, which is believed to bring good luck.
Throughout the day, I felt a deep sense of tranquility. The village was not just a place of beauty but also a spiritual sanctuary. I saw many people participating in various Buddhist activities and celebrating festivals. It was heartwarming to see how the village preserved and promoted Buddhist culture.
As the day came to an end, I took one last walk through the bamboo forest. The setting sun cast a golden glow on the trees, making the whole place look magical. I left Putuo Village feeling refreshed and at peace, grateful for the experience.

#malaysia #temple A must visit temple nearby JB especially during CNY period. There is old folk home just right beside the main gate entrance to the temple. All are welcome to give donation to support them as well. For this temple, usually we skip 1st day of CNY because is too crowded and traffic is very jam over there. you can pay a visit if you never been there before, and is very instagrammable place. #putuovillange

Favourite Breakfast Fix
Where – Authentic Hainanese Noodle House (Kulai)
Address - 625, Jalan Berjasa 6, Taman Gunung Pulai, 81000 Kulai, Johor, Malaysia
Ambience – naturally ventilated family coffeeshop
Price per pax – ~RM18
Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Opening Hours – 0700-1530hrs daily
We never miss to visit this coffeeshop for breakfast which serves yummy beef noodles and pork noodles. The special formulated thick and fragrant dark soya sauce is not too starchy but with spices. Have been going to them for more than 10 years whenever we need our breakfast fix. We are glad that they survived the Covid lockdown and now we are back.
While the taste is still good, inflation is very real. Despite the price increase, the serving size has shrunk too. Now we have to order the bigger size.
Saw something interesting on this visit. They have kept 2 real-life nests in the coffeeshop. These are nests for the birds. The one with 1 opening is for the birds to mate. The other one with 2 openings is for the birds to lay eggs and hatch the young. How interesting.
They have extended their menu and we will be back to try the others. For now, we just need to satisfy our craving for their pork noodles and beef noodles first.

Finally got to do CNY visitation to my relatives in Johor and there are a few eateries which we miss and one of them is Cathay Restaurant in Kulai. It is just under an hour from Tuas Checkpoint which is quite convenient.
The restaurant serves traditional restaurant grade menu with their set menu typically have 9-course. The restaurant is huge which can host up to 100 tables. Still recall attending a wedding dinner there 20 years ago. There is ample parking space and I saw many Singapore-plated cars there too.
While their chefs have come and go, the Head Chef is still the same dishing up high-quality dishes with great authentic taste. I’m glad the restaurant did not succumb to the pressure of Covid lockdown the last 3 years.
The restaurant was so crowded when were there and we have to wait more than an hour for the dishes to be served. It is worth the wait. We hope to visit them again during off festive period as we enjoy the occasional banter from the restaurant owner as he walks around the tables for a few chats.

natural morning walk in palm oil plantation
#2023travelwish
this is not the hidden myth to the morning walk exercisers at Kulai Johor Malaysia. my friends asked me for morning exercise and photography at Kulai palm oil plantation every morning during my business trips to Johor over the weekend for 2 continuous weekends.
for those who wish to visit, make sure you arrive the plantation area before 0645am if you are looking for the sunrise at the plantation and walk together with the exercisers. this is important to ensure you won't lost inside the plantation, the trekking trail or inside the jungle. also watch out for snake.Yes, we spotted some snakes.
this is an awesome trip with my old friends over the weekend. For the colorful photos, it depends on the weather and wind. my friend told me the wind starts to blow after 8.30am, so I have 1hour 30minutes for photography for my every trip. Great hints.

1.5hr steep trail to 654M ⛰️
Mount Pulai is one very nice place to be close to nature and be energised by the fresh air and view. However, it is a rather steep journey up, challenging your resilience as you progress, as you really won't be able to enjoy the surroundings that much while panting. It will be a nice experience to push yourself to surpass your limit. It takes about 1.5hr to reach the top, to be at the same height as the clouds. We got to see some plants and animals and rare insects which is quite interesting. We visited at 7.30am and by the time we came down at about 11am, it is starting to get packed. So if you want to enjoy some exclusive peace and breeze, it's better to go earlier.
It is open Tue to Sun, 7am to 3pm. MUST VISIT!!!

Affordable High End Cusine in Kulai
Who says Kulai is a boring town in malaysia???
We had so much to do on a day trip to Kulai. With a durian farm visit to a monastery tour, to cafe hopping and to a mural wall art by locals. We ended off our trip with a sumptuous late lunch at Chao Shan Restaurant located around industrial offices. Chao Shan is a teo Chew restaurant that serves real authentic teo Chew dishes that is somewhat a dying trend in Singapore. Teochew food in SG can come even at a hefty price tag.
Dishes that are worth mentioning:
Lobsters at 24.90Rm/100g(sashimi style)
Tiger Grouper Fish at 12RM/100g(steamed with preserved veg style)
Fried crispy duck with plum sauce(whole) at 44rm
Crab Roe Porridge at 60rm
Prawn with garlic and vermicelli at 41rm
Braised duck and pork platter
Fried Yam with Sugar
Teochew scrambled eggs
Oyster Egg
Teochew Fried Noodles
You can check out the pricing on their website or on foodpanda malaysia as the prices are the same.
Do come with a big group and you can get a private table with a spending of 500rm.
Also getting here, do not use Google map as it isn't updated. Use Waze instead. We got kinda lost when coming here.

Popular Monastery Temple In Kulai
Johor is popular among Singaporeans for all the different local traditional food. It's always all about eating and also cheap shopping!
But up north in Kulai, there is a monastery very popular among the locals, wave of tour buses can be seen entering the monastery every 10/15mins or so.
This monastery is built in Putuo Village, somewhere in the hilly rolling mountains, so do expect some walking in the monastery as it is also rather huge!
Many come to pay their respects, give offerings and hope to get blessing from the gods.
There are also several small stalls selling ice cream served in bamboo! There is also a cute little cafe called fat bamboo where visitors can take a rest, be away from the heat and enjoy the aircon to have coffee or a freshly prepared cold tea served in bamboo! Highly do recommend the lychee green tea, definitely a thrist quencher.
For drivers, there are ample of parking located in the monastery due to its huge vicinity. Entrance fee into the .onsatary is generally free unless you are interested to enter another part of the monastery, where a small fee will be required.
