The HTMS Lanta Museum, Krabi Provincial Administrative Organization, was established to express loyalty and celebrate His Majesty the King's 84th birthday anniversary in 2011, in response to the government's urgent policy to increase income from both domestic and international tourism to drive the country's economy, increase income and distribute income to people in the Andaman Sea region, including tourism operators, other sectors related to tourism business, people, tourists, youth, students, to learn about the history, geography, economy and society of the area, as well as to be a valuable tourist attraction and learning center for the younger generation and a new tourist attraction in the Andaman Sea region, as well as to honor the Royal Thai Navy and Koh Lanta District, Krabi Province. The 2nd floor is the Krabi Provincial Museum, which collects stories of Krabi Province from prehistoric times to the beginning of the construction of Krabi Town. Learn about the history of Krabi Town, ancient beads, ancient paintings, prehistoric animals and prehistoric humans, the best of Krabi Town and the 5 Andaman provinces, as well as watch a 4D movie presenting the story of Krabi Province, the HTMS Lanta Hall of Fame, etc. The 3rd floor is the Krabi Town Learning Center, which has a planetarium, a TV shooting room, a music library, an electronic library and a specialized library of Krabi Province to promote endless learning with modern tools. HTMS Lanta is a large landing craft built during World War II by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company of the United States. It entered service with the US Navy on May 1, 1941 under the name USS STONE COUNTRY LST 1141. Its duty is to load and deliver personnel and large equipment such as tanks and trucks to the beach by beaching or parking near the beach and connecting with a bridge. Later, the United States provided assistance to the Thai army on March 12, 1970. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, granted the name “Lanta”, which is the name of Koh Lanta District, Krabi Province. During the service, HTMS Lanta performed many important missions, including the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and was decommissioned on January 30, 2007.
