Elegant Place for Dim Sum

Finding a place to have dim sum with my mom is getting increasingly difficult because she has already tried many high-end hotel Chinese restaurants, and she has a very discerning palate. I remembered Airside's Lan Yue, which has stylish decor and a good reputation, so I decided to take my mom there to try it out. They offer a brunch set menu that includes dim sum, small dishes, soup, and a main course, which saves us the trouble of deciding what to order. We all opted for the set menu. The set menu includes three types of dim sum: two steamed and one fried. The steamed ones are fennel seafood dumplings and black truffle wild mushroom dumplings. In terms of presentation and taste, I found the latter to be more impressive. The fried dim sum is a triple cheese cod spring roll. My mom found the cheese flavor too strong, which she couldn't quite handle, but I found it acceptable. We also ordered shrimp dumplings and BBQ pork buns for the kids. The BBQ pork buns had a fragrant and sweet filling with a fluffy exterior, which passed the test. The shrimp dumplings were generously filled, but the kids didn't like them because they contained a small amount of celery. Next, we each had a bowl of double-boiled soup. To summarize, it was very hearty and had a clear sweetness. The small dish of okra with black vinegar pork shoulder was quite good. The pork shoulder had a great texture and the sweet and sour black vinegar made it very appetizing, even making the okra more appealing. The set menu also included vegetables: fresh lotus seed and chicken soup with baby bok choy. The baby bok choy was tender and sweet, and I ate quite a lot. The final dish was fried rice with dried scallops and pine nuts. The rice was well-fried with distinct grains and was delicious. We couldn't finish it, so we packed it up to take home for dinner. The set menu concluded, and we added a few desserts. The most eye-catching was the black sesame cake shaped like stone lions. The two gray-black stone lions were very impressive and perfect for photos. The taste was not bad either, with a genuine black sesame flavor and no complaints. Overall, this meal passed my mom's test. Restaurant Information: Lan Yue Shop L301-L302, 3/F, AIRSIDE, 2 Concorde Road, Kai Tak, Kowloon City
