The community’s way of life, deeply rooted in tradition and seemingly untouched by the passage of time, was remarkable to witness. The Moken people have inhabited the islands in the Andaman Sea for over a century, and their connection with the sea is both profound and captivating. As we strolled through the village, we admired the simple wooden structures that made up their homes. Fishing is the main livelihood for most of the villagers, reflecting their deep bond with the ocean. Scattered throughout the village were small souvenir stalls, offering handcrafted treasures like ankle bracelets and intricately carved bangles—each piece a unique reminder of their rich cultural heritage. Although our time there was brief, the village stood out as one of the most fascinating highlights of our visit to the Surin Islands.
