Kefalonia Island in Greece: Homer's Odyssey

#JanuaryGoodPlaces2025 Kefalonia is located in the Ionian Sea and is the largest island in the Ionian Islands. The island is believed to be named after the ancient Greek mythological hero Cephalus, and is also famous as the hometown of Odysseus in Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey", who called him "the king of the Kefalonia people". Figure 4 Melissani Cave: The blue underground lake is a beautiful natural wonder. The boatman will sing for us when entering the blue cave. Melissani Cave was discovered in 1951. In Greek mythology, Melissani is the cave of the nymphs. Because the shepherd god Pan rejected her love, the nymph committed suicide in the cave, which is the origin of the cave's name.
