Bezirgan Grain Warehouses

#postandearn The Bezirgan Grain Warehouses, located in the village of Bezirgan near Kalkan in Turkey’s Antalya province, are remarkable examples of traditional rural architecture and agricultural heritage. These historic structures were built centuries ago by local communities to store harvested grains such as wheat and barley. Constructed primarily from cedar wood and resting on stone bases, the warehouses were designed to protect the crops from humidity, pests, and spoilage. Their elevated platforms allowed air circulation, while their thick wooden walls preserved the grain for long periods, ensuring food security for the villagers. Today, around 100 of these wooden granaries still stand, forming an open-air museum that reflects the cultural and economic life of past generations. Although they are no longer actively used for storage, the warehouses remain an important symbol of Anatolia’s rural traditions and are often visited by history enthusiasts and travelers exploring the Lycian region.
