Wenshu Monastery

Wenshu Monastery is located in Qingyang District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It was founded during the Daye years of the Sui Dynasty, with a construction area of more than 200,000 square meters. It is a 5A-level tourist attraction in Chengdu and is classified as a historical and cultural site. As the leading Zen forest among the four major Zen forests along the Yangtze River in China, it is a national key Buddhist temple designated by the State Council and a key cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan Province. It is currently the location of the provincial and municipal Buddhist associations. Wenshu Monastery was originally built during the Daye years of the Sui Dynasty (605-617 AD). In the thirty-sixth year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1697 AD), the temple was rebuilt by Zen Master Cidu Haiyue and renamed Wenshu Monastery. In the fortieth year of Kangxi's reign (1701 AD), Emperor Kangxi bestowed the plaque 'Kong Lin', hence Wenshu Monastery is also known as 'Kong Lin Hall'. During the Jiaqing period, the abbot of Wenshu Monastery, Master Benyuan, mainly used 82 stone pillars to renovate and rebuild the key halls of the monastery. During the Daoguang period, Wenshu Monastery was expanded to its current scale. Wenshu Monastery is a Buddhist holy land that integrates Zen forest relics, ancient garden architecture, pilgrimage sightseeing, and religious study. Every day, it attracts a large number of faithful men and women who come to participate in Zen meditation and burn incense. May the Bodhisattva bless us all with peace, health, happiness, and wealth.
