After comparing prices on booking websites, we finally chose to book at Just Sleep Kaohsiung Zhongzheng through Trip Moments. The front desk staff provided excellent service when we called with questions, checked in, checked out, and stored our luggage. The entrance to the underground parking lot behind the building is relatively small, with a faded canopy and small lettering, making it easy to miss, especially with nearby parked cars. After calling the front desk and following their directions, we quickly found the parking entrance. There are limited parking spaces on B1, but we arrived early and managed to secure a spot. The second-floor lounge offers coffee and snacks, and there is a gym and laundry facilities with free detergent, which made doing laundry convenient during our two-night stay. However, the dryer requires a $10 fee. The room was very clean, with a good layout. The mattress, quilt, and pillows were very comfortable, and complimentary drinks and snacks were provided. We stayed in different room types over the two days. The first night was a four-person room with two double beds and a bidet toilet, while the second night was a two-person room with two single beds but no bidet toilet. Breakfast was decent, but on the first morning at 6:30 AM, we encountered a large tour group, making the food area crowded and the flow of people less organized. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay.

Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum

Meinong, a suburb of Kaohsiung, was once selected as one of Taiwan's top ten tourist towns. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese army built a power plant here, giving it a distinctly Japanese feel. With 90% of the population being Hakka, Meinong boasts numerous Hakka cultural attractions, such as Yong'an Old Street and the Meinong Folk Village, offering a glimpse into the authentic Hakka culture. Beyond Hakka culture, visitors can also enjoy the stunning lake and mountain scenery. Meinong Lake is Kaohsiung's second largest lake, boasting a lakeside walking and bicycle trail lined with red-flowered cypress, bald cypress, and water willow. In the surrounding farmland, during the winter when crops are not cultivated, various flowers are planted for free viewing by visitors. The Meinong Cultural and Creative Center, located on Yong'an Old Street, was converted from the century-old Meinong Police Station. It is the only remaining official building from the Japanese colonial era in the Meinong area. Its Baroque exterior and Japanese-style interior create a unique blend of Japanese and Western elements. Cradle Café in the Cultural and Creative Center offers light meals, desserts, coffee, and drinks. -The Meinong Hakka Museum showcases the life, customs, and history of the Hakka people. There's also the Meinong Library, where the curtains are decorated with Hakka-dyed fabrics, reflecting Meinong's rustic yet Japanese style. -Meinong's delicious food is also a must-try. Meinong's rice noodles are renowned far and wide and are a must-try.
