Walking into Kanazawa's Higashi Chaya Street is like stepping back in time. Flanked by well-preserved wooden townhouses, the atmosphere is elegant and tranquil. Even though it's bustling with tourists during the day, walking along the cobblestone streets still allows you to experience the ancient charm of the Edo period. For lunch, I chose a long-established soba noodle shop. The handmade soba noodles were chewy and paired with a refreshing broth—simple yet satisfying. Compared to fancy meals, this simple bowl of noodles offers the best glimpse into the everyday flavors of the local area. After lunch, I made a special trip to Huaihualou, a former teahouse now open to the public and serving desserts. I ordered the signature "Gold Leaf Pafei," a dish of shimmering gold leaf spread across ice cream and fruit, perfectly capturing the essence of Kanazawa as the "Gold Leaf Capital." The sweetness was accompanied by a hint of surprise, creating a luxurious experience both visually and gustatorily. Higashi Chaya Street is not only a great place for photos; it also allows one to experience the unique elegance of Kanazawa through its food, architecture, and culture.
