Kamphaeng Phet City Pillar Shrine

Kamphaeng Phet City Pillar Shrine is an ancient shrine that is more than 700 years old. It is believed that the powerful King Woraman (Hem) built it. It is made of round laterite, approximately 2 meters long, and 1 meter above the ground. There is a deity’s head on top of the laterite. During the reign of King Chulalongkorn, the roof of the shrine collapsed onto the city pillar and deity’s head. After that, it was in a desolate state for a long time. Then in 1984, there was a ceremony to invite the city pillar and deity’s head to the shrine on May 5, 1984. Later, an expert craftsman from the Department of Fine Arts, The Ministry of Culture surveyed the damage to the original city pillar and restored it to preserve it. At the same time, a new replica of the city pillar was made. Made of golden teak, the height from the ground is 2.29 meters, the width of the base is 64 centimeters.
