Ikisu Shrine, one of the three eastern shrines that have been worshipped since ancient times

Ikusu Shrine, with over 2000 years of history, is one of the "Three Eastern Shrines" along with Kashima Shrine and Katori Shrine. Compared to the other two shrines, it has a quiet, quaint, and rustic appearance. On both sides of the first torii gate facing the Tone River, there is a pair of springs called "Oshioi," which is said to be one of the three sacred springs in Japan. Matsuo Basho, who stopped by on his way to Kashima, composed a haiku here, and Meiji era literary figure Tokutomi Roka also mentioned staying at Ikusu in an essay, making this shrine a beloved shrine for writers and artists alike.
