Saienji Temple, associated with Shinran

Sainenji Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Inada, Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a special head temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect. It is an independent temple. It is said that Shinran, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, began working on "Kyogyoshinsho" here and wrote the draft version. It is revered by Shinshu followers as a sacred place where the Jodo Shinshu sect was founded. On February 28, 1207 (March 28, 1207), Shinran, a disciple of Honen's Yoshimizu sect, was exiled during the Jogen persecution and sent to the provincial government office in Echigo Province. In November of the first year of the Kenryaku era (1211), he was pardoned. He remained in Echigo for about two and a half years after his pardon. In 1214, he was invited by Inada Kuro Yorishige, the lord of Inada in Hitachi Province, to build a hermitage in this place, which was called "Fubukidani," and it came to be called "Inada's Hermitage." He returned to Tokyo at around age 62 or 63. He preached in the eastern provinces for about 20 years. The addresses of his disciples were almost all within a 30km concentric circle centered on this hermitage, so it is believed that he preached from Inada as his base. From the area where the legends related to Shinran remain, it is believed that he preached widely from Kanto to Tohoku, focusing on the three provinces of Hitachi, Shimousa, and Shimotsuke.
