A short walk up an i

A short walk up an incline from the main road, the temple and bamboo garden are very scenic and peaceful. It's a popular site and is used by a number of tours from Tokyo as a stop so I would definitely recommend going early if you want to see it when it's quieter. However, both times I have been the tour groups have been respectful and there has still been plenty of room to take in the surroundings. The bamboo grove is relatively small compared to the well known Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, but is more peaceful and is still big enough to have a stone and wood path to walk through the garden. There's a pond next to one of the Temple buildings when you leave the bamboo garden which is a good spot to see the burial caves from and to keep an eye out for dragonflies and other creatures. #givethanks #givethanks

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is a shrine only 10-15 minutes walk from Kamakura Station. The shrine has a huge estate with lots to observe and entertain. Impressive, historic, inspiring and photographic Shrine and grounds. Very well preserved Temple, recommended if you are visiting the Kamakura area. You should spend time walking through them as well as going up the stairs to the main shrine building. Depending upon the season, there will be different flowers blooming, including in the ponds and on the island. There are also several other smaller shrines in the grounds that are also worth a look. Regardless the ages, there are things to do. There are worshippers, tourists, kindergarten students, etc. Of course, there are many places to visit in Kamakura. #givethanks #givethanks

Kamakura Hasedera

It is a grand piece of Japanese history and decorative to the eye. It is top of the list for me within Kamakura. Insider tip is to walk up around the back and also check out the views of the beach and Mt Fuji in the background. Inside is interesting and you can see artwork of heaven and hell on each wall as well statues and informative religious items. The architecture of the temples is stunning. The ponds and gardens attract some beautiful wildlife including some very large red and blue dragonflies as well as cicadas. The viewing platform has spectacular views across Kamakura. There is also a cave temple that was really interesting. The overall feeling of calm and tranquility exudes throughout the temple complex. Definitely worth a visit if in Kamakura or Tokyo. #givethanks #givethanks
