Engakuji Temple, one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kamakura.

In the late Kamakura period, in the 5th year of Koan (1282), Engakuji Temple was founded by Zen Master Mugaku Sogen, who was invited from the Song Dynasty in China by the regent Tokimune Hojo. Tokimune, who became regent at the age of 18, was deeply devoted to Zen Buddhism under the guidance of Zen Master Mugaku Sogen. He established Engakuji Temple with the wishes of protecting the nation, spreading Zen, and equally mourning the war dead from the Mongol invasions, regardless of friend or foe.
