Surprises in Yogyakarta: Finally stepping into the dopamine-colored volcano.

This volcanic village is famous on Instagram for its colorful and tiered landscapes, making it a photographer's dream. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to visit. During my trip to Yogyakarta, I specifically set aside a day to explore this place. When the drone took off and captured the breathtaking views of the volcano and the village, I felt the journey was absolutely worth it. 🧩 The village is called Nepal Van Java. I was curious about its connection to Nepal, which is thousands of kilometers away. Later, I learned that the village was established in the 19th century by Nepalese immigrants and named "Nepal" to honor their homeland. 🧩 It is located on the slopes of Mount Sumbing in Central Java. Sumbing is an active volcano standing at 3,371 meters high, though it hasn't erupted in a long time. According to my research, its last eruption was in 1730, nearly 300 years ago. (If it were as active as Mount Merapi, no one would dare live on its slopes.) The fertile volcanic soil has made agriculture thrive here, and the terraced fields are the main source of income for the villagers. 🧩 Situated about 60 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta, we hired a car from Amanjiwo to get there. The one-way trip took about an hour. To capture clear views of the volcano, it's best to arrive before 9 a.m.
