The resort covers 81 acres, located in the sacred land where the lava zone and the coastline intersect, with charming geological landscapes and rich natural resources. The redesigned resort draws inspiration from the long history and culture of this land, illuminating the past, present, and future of the ancient Kaʻūpūlehu Lake. (The resort was affected by the tsunami caused by the super-strong earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011, and was damaged in this devastating tsunami. The Kona Resort Hotel, which opened in the 1960s, also closed as a result.)
