Jiyuan | Yanqing Temple, Sarira Pagoda.

The Sarira Pagoda is one of the cultural landmarks of Jiyuan. It was first built in the first year of the Jingyou period of the Northern Song dynasty and is now a national key cultural relic protection unit. The Jiyuan Cultural Relics Management Bureau is also located here. The construction of the Sarira Pagoda is related to the Daming Temple mentioned earlier. During the Northern Song dynasty, Daming Temple was still called Tonghui Zen Temple. The monk Fayan of the Zen Temple discussed with the abbot of Yanqing Temple to build a pagoda to enshrine the sarira. In 1983, the Sarira Pagoda was obviously tilted, and partial repairs and corrections were carried out. In 2019, large-scale repairs were carried out. In 2021, the ground on both sides of the pagoda foundation subsided due to heavy rainfall, causing cracks in the northeast pagoda body on the first floor of the pagoda. Emergency repairs were carried out later, and the pagoda is still not open to the public. The Sarira Pagoda is located next to Longtan Park, and you can see it from a distance outside the wall. The pagoda is inlaid with 1,344 carved bricks of Buddha niches, with delicate carvings and smooth clothing lines, which are worth seeing. Unfortunately, the temple is not open due to repairs, so you can only see it from a distance.
