Shaxi Ancient Town Travel Guide | If you want to go somewhere windy, it's recommended to save this

Shaxi Ancient Town originated during the rise of the Nanzhao Kingdom and is the only surviving market on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It is also the ancient town where Xu Hongdou from 'The Place with the Wind' lived. The natural scenery around is beautiful, and the architecture in the town is simple and full of character. It takes only one or two hours to walk through the whole town, but it's more suitable to settle down and relax to enjoy the slow pace of life. 🚌Transportation We went there from Jianchuan. Next to the small gate beside the Jianchuan Bus Station, you can find the green minivan going to Shaxi Ancient Town. The fare is 20 yuan per person, and the journey takes about an hour. The van will directly reach the parking lot of the Shaxi Ancient Town Tourist Center. For the return trip, you can walk along the 084 County Road of the ancient town to the entrance, where you can take a minivan back to Jianchuan. 💌Tips: Since the mountain roads are winding, it is easy to get carsick, so you can take some motion sickness medicine in advance. ➡️Ancient Town Tour Route Yujin Bridge - Nanzong Ancient Alley - Ancient Opera Stage - Xingjiao Temple - Sideng Street - Ouyang Courtyard - Shaxi Specialty Snack Market ⛰️Yujin Bridge The Yujin Bridge to the east of the ancient town is the best place to enjoy the natural scenery. Horse teams often pass by the bridge, bringing the sound of clear bells. On a sunny and cloudy day, strolling along the Heihui River can heal all unhappiness. ⛰️Nanzong Ancient Alley A simple and quiet alley, next to it are traditional Bai ethnic dwellings and quaint shops. There is also a Nan Zhai Gate, an arched gate made entirely of adobe, which is one of my favorite places in the ancient town. ⛰️Ancient Opera Stage With a front stage and a rear pavilion, the Kui Xing Pavilion-style building is the central area of the town. Next to it is Grandma A Rui's shop, and Shaxi Chaplin, the town's performance artist, also frequents here. ⛰️Xingjiao Temple Built during the Ming Dynasty, it is currently the largest and most representative Buddhist Tantric 'Azha Li' temple in China. The sculptures at the entrance and the murals inside have a strong local flavor and are treasures of ancient Bai ethnic art. ⛰️Sideng Street The main street of the ancient town, with low Qing Dynasty dwellings on both sides and Ming and Qing stone slabs underfoot, seems to keep time still, making this street seem unchanged, just like a hundred years ago. ⛰️Ouyang Courtyard A traditional Bai ethnic building, it is the best-preserved dwelling in the town and was once a horse inn. ⛰️Shaxi Specialty Snack Market Next to the parking lot of the tourist center, there are many local specialties, such as ersi, rice noodles, roasted ersi blocks, and roasted milk fans. 🕰️Opening Hours: Open all day 🌟Nearby Attractions: Shibaoshan, Jianchuan Ancient Town
