St Aubin's Bay, Jersey, British Crown Dependency

The British Crown Dependency of St Aubin's Bay stretches for about 5 kilometres along the southern part of the island from St Helier in the east to St Aubin's Bay in the west. Gulf Owned A wide sandy beach, one of the closest to St Helier, it is often busy with sunbathers, especially at the eastern end around the seawater swimming pool. Jersey has the third highest tides in the world. At low tide, the island nearly doubles in size, and during the highest tide of the year, the tidal range reaches an astonishing 12 meters. Although the tidal range is only ranked third, the scenery after low tide is much more beautiful than the Bay of Fundy in Canada, which ranks first. Tidal currents not only create an ever-changing backdrop, as Jersey transforms from a turquoise bay to a rocky 'moon' landscape at low tide, they also create low-water habitats for rare marine life such as wild abalone, which is considered a delicacy in many countries, with Jersey being the farthest northerly place where abalone can be found.
