The Wedding Rock (Meoto Iwa) or “Wedding Rock” is located in Futami Okitama Shrine in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, Kansai Region, Japan. The Wedding Rock is a natural stone that looks like the auspicious thread on the heads of the bride and groom at a wedding ceremony. The rock is divided into two pieces by the sea, one small and one large, connected by a large rope called “Shimenawa Rope”. According to legend, it represents a married couple, the god Izanagi no Okami and the god Izanami no Okami, who created everything on earth and gave birth to many other gods.
