#summerdestinations During my summer vacation in Crete, I visited Chrysoskalitissa Monastery, and it was a serene and memorable experience. Located on the southwestern coast of Crete, near Elafonissi Beach, the monastery sits on a hill overlooking the Libyan Sea. The entrance fee was just €2, making it a great stop for both your budget and your soul. Climbing the 98 steps up to the monastery, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. Legend has it that one of the steps is made of gold, visible only to the pure of heart. The monastery itself is beautiful, with whitewashed walls, a small museum, and stunning sea views that make the climb worth it. Inside, the icons and religious artifacts give you a glimpse into the deep spiritual history of the place. After visiting the monastery, I headed to the famous Elafonissi Beach, just a 10-minute drive away, where the pink sand and crystal-clear waters were the perfect way to end the day.
