Treasure Hunyuan, in addition to Hengshan Hanging Temple, don't miss the ancient city of Hunyuan

When traveling to Datong, you generally won't miss Hunyuan County. Everyone knows that there are Mount Hengshan and the Hanging Temple here, but Yilan recommends that you don't miss the ancient city of Hunyuan. This treasure town also has many tourist resources. . I went to Hunyuan County last week and my first stop was the Hanging Temple. This building built on a cliff is amazing. The Hanging Temple is the only existing temple in China that combines Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, and has always been listed as the number one wonder of Mount Hengshan, the Northern Mountain. There are two ways to visit the Hanging Temple: one is a regular ticket for visiting at the foot of the mountain, and the other is a ticket for climbing up to get up close and personal with the Hanging Temple. Since the number of people allowed to board the vehicle during each period is limited, there are often queues. Because Yilan wanted to save time to go to Hunyuan Ancient City, and she was afraid of heights, and most importantly, I had a telephoto lens, so we didn't even go through the gate. We just took a few photos on the bridge next to the parking lot. The view here is very good~ . The next destination, Hunyuan Ancient City, is what I look forward to the most. Hunyuan Ancient City is located 3.5 kilometers north of the Hanging Temple and can be reached in a few minutes by car. The small city surrounded by mountains has ancient charm and a touch of human life, which made me fall in love with it at first sight. . The first stop in the ancient city: Yong'an Zen Temple, which was first built in the Jin Dynasty. Known as the Grand Temple, Yong'an Temple is a representative of "folk temples with royal specifications" and the most valuable ancient building in Hunyuan County. It is recommended to ask for an explanation at the door. Passing through the Heavenly King Hall in the front yard, a simple and magnificent hall stands before your eyes. This is the only remaining Yuan Dynasty building in Yong'an Zen Temple. The hall of Yong'an Temple is a rare artistic treasure in China. The most amazing thing is the murals inside the hall! The huge mural, 3 meters high and 56 meters long, covers the west, north and east walls. The exquisite figures, magnificent momentum and huge narrative are amazing. In addition, the dome of the main hall is ingeniously crafted, with a double caisson structure and an exquisite golden dragon wandering in it, which looks vivid and lifelike. Please note that taking photos is not allowed in the main hall, but there are replicas of murals in the side halls on both sides, which you can appreciate and take photos of carefully. Ticket price: 20 (free for those over 60 years old), tour time: 1 hour . The second stop in the ancient city: Yuanjue Temple Pagoda, which is just in front of Yong'an Temple and can be reached on foot. This place has not been officially opened to the public yet. The lady guarding the temple was very kind. She opened the door for us to come in and patiently introduced the history of the tower. The Hunyuan Yuanjue Temple Pagoda was built in the third year of the Zhenglong Period of the Jin Dynasty (1158) and is a well-preserved brick pagoda from the Jin Dynasty. The tower is octagonal in shape and is the only dense-eaves tower in Datong, Shanxi. It is a brick-built imitation wood structure divided into three parts: the base, the tower body, and the top. The patterns carved on the base are quite exquisite. The tower has 9 floors. There is a small door on each of the four sides of the first floor. Only one of the four doors is real. There is an iron phoenix with its wings spread on the top of the tower, which actually serves as a weather vane. As the breeze blows, the wind chimes under the eaves make pleasant tinkling sounds, like the sound of nature. Temporarily free to visit, tour time: 15-30 minutes .
