Choose the right season to find your Emerald City.

If you come too early, the large maple and poplar forests surrounding the ancient village haven't yet budded, and while the stream is clear, its reflection lacks that deep green hue, leaving the entire wetland looking a bit dry. It's recommended to visit after May 1st to capture the true essence of an Emerald City. Cross a stone slab bridge from the visitor center to enter the village. Remember to turn right after entering and stroll along the stream, as the main commercial area and scenic spots are concentrated there. In reality, there aren't many ancient relics within the old village, and even the old house pavilion is reduced to two closed iron doors. In terms of ancient architecture, this place is far inferior to Hongcun and Xidi. The interplay of wetlands and the village in summer is the most worthwhile sight. The village isn't very commercialized, but it has a rich, lived-in atmosphere. There's an ancient ginkgo tree in the village that appears to have been struck by lightning, revealing a hollowed-out half of its trunk. A lightning rod is tied to the top of the tree, which is a bit touching. Despite its age and damage, it stands tall, guarding the village. The cats and dogs in the village are very comfortable and relaxed. Even if you try to get their attention, they won't bother to look up from their sunbathing. This is the tranquility I envy the most. There's a quiet and elegant teahouse by the stream. Sitting in the bamboo forest, daydreaming and relaxing is a great option. It's only a fifteen-minute taxi ride from Huangshan North Station, costing 16 yuan, though I did get a disapproving look from the driver. It's not far from here to Chengkan and Tunxi Old Street. I don't recommend staying in the ancient village, as cars can't enter. It's a bit difficult to drag luggage into the village. Electric cars are available for rent at the visitor center, but I don't think it's necessary, as an hour is enough to explore this village. You can stay in a homestay outside the visitor center, where parking is convenient and the ancient village is nearby.
