A Tour of Beipu Old Street and the Irresistible Hakka Cuisine

Beipu Old Street was once the bustling commercial center of Beipu during the Qing Dynasty. Today, the short 200-meter street boasts seven historical sites, making it the most densely packed area of historical landmarks in Taiwan. Among these are the national monuments Jin Guangfu Mansion and Tianshui Hall, as well as the county-designated monuments Citian Temple and Jiang A-xin Mansion, all of which are truly eye-opening. On the old street, you can savor Hakka cuisine, such as the most authentic Hakka Lei Cha and the famous persimmon cakes. The entire street is free of large chain stores, maintaining a simple and rustic atmosphere. Speaking of Beipu Old Street in Hsinchu, the most unmissable experience is the authentic Hakka cuisine. Due to the strong Hakka flavor, I visited Beipu Art Town again today for the lard rice, Hakka glutinous rice balls, Hakka stir-fried rice noodles, and clover ice cream. After the meal, I wandered through the old houses and walls of the old street, trying to find the nine miniature sculptures hidden by a Spanish artist in the past.
