Oil Street realizes new exhibition to present traditional Chinese culture with contemporary art

In conjunction with the opening of the new space of Oil Street, Oil Street has planned the "Ancient Curators Series", inviting young scholars of Chinese art history to serve as guest curators to present traditional Chinese culture in the face of contemporary art. The first exhibition "Cun - Cultural Symbols of Chinese Landscape Painting" (December 9) will be on display at the Glass House on Oil Street. ​ The chamfering method is an important form of expression in landscape painting. It originated from the painter's observation of nature, and transformed what he saw in front of his eyes into his brushwork techniques to present the structure, texture, texture and yin and yang of the rocks. Due to the different geology and rocks in different places, as well as the different views in different seasons, weather, and time, painters had different feelings and ideas, and gradually developed various chamfering methods. ​ Dr. Chen Guannan, Director of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting at the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, is the guest curator of "Cun - Cultural Symbols of Chinese Landscape Painting". He invited six local artists, including Huang Xiaokui, Au Dawei, Feng Yongji, Xiong Hai, Xiong Fai and Qiu Rongfeng reinterpret the collection of the Art Museum of CUHK, each selecting one or more pieces from the Art Museum collection to recreate and interpret the landscape and chamfering techniques in their minds. ​ This exhibition echoes the "Landscape Masterpieces - Selection of Landscape Paintings from the Collection of the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong" exhibition simultaneously on display at the Art Museum to showcase the infinite possibilities of contemporary landscape painting creation. The audience can appreciate the enduring charm of Chinese landscape paintings and gain a moment of tranquility brought by landscapes and Chinese art and culture. ​ The exhibition is jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and jointly organized by Oil Street Realization and the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
