Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Tuen Ng, falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Dragon Boat Festival is one of the tourist attractions in Hong Kong. The first international Dragon Boat races were held in 1976. Every year, dragon boat races take place around the end of May or early June. It amazed me to see how each team synchronizes its rhythm and energies. I read that unlike before, nowadays boats are mostly made of fiber which is considered lighter than wood, whereas wood also will absorb water during the race and will make it heavier. The other thing interesting about this event is 粽子zongzi or rice dumplings. Made of glutinous rice stuffed with filling with salted egg yolk, mung bean, and pork belly, and wrapped using bamboo leaves. This Chinese dish is known for its savoury taste.
