#In-depth tour of Hong Kong Cattle Depot Art Village (Former Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Station) The former Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Station (commonly known as "Cow Depot"), located on Ma Tau Kok Road, To Kwa Wan, is the only remaining pre-war slaughterhouse in Hong Kong. The station was built in 1908 and was used as a slaughterhouse and animal quarantine center until it was closed in mid-1999 when the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse opened. The former Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Station was rated as a Grade II historic building in 2009. The front site of the Cattle Depot was renovated and converted into the Cattle Depot Art Village in 2001 to relocate local artists from the Oil Street Art Village in North Point. The rear site was revitalized and developed into the Cattle Depot Art Park, which opened in 2019. The Cattle Depot Art Village has short-term rental units and open space for independent artists or art groups to rent. The Art Village holds various art activities from time to time, such as exhibitions and workshops.
