🇭🇰 Sham Shui Po Hidden Gem｜The Century-Old Water Palace Gets a Second Life Ex - Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir The former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir, built in 1904, was once part of Hong Kong’s first gravity-fed water supply system. It has now been decommissioned and revitalized as a historic building. The reservoir’s architecture is designed as a Romanesque underground palace, supported by 108 granite columns holding up a 9-meter-high vaulted ceiling. It is modeled after Victorian-era waterworks buildings in the UK and is the only remaining example of this design in Hong Kong. It has a strong vintage industrial vibe. It was almost completely demolished before being discovered and exposed in time, then urgently designated as a historic protected building.
