A fully satisfying lunch

Having Japanese BBQ for lunch might seem strange to some, but to me, it’s no big deal. Yakiniku 801 at Tsuen Wan Plaza is run by Japanese owners, and the name has been on my list for a long time. Today, I finally had the chance to try their lunch. I can only say, the lunch is incredibly affordable! Chicken thigh and pork belly combo costs only 58 HKD (plus a 10% service charge), and it comes with rice, miso soup, and a soda. Both the chicken thigh and pork belly are well prepared. The chicken thigh is served with scallion oil; when freshly grilled, dipping it in the refreshing scallion oil is fantastic and goes perfectly with the rice. The pork belly has distinct layers and is grilled to a crispy texture, somewhat like eating potato chips but even more indulgent. I didn’t expect two non-beef dishes to be of such high quality. Even the beef skirt steak is only 68 HKD—where else can you find that? The thinly sliced beef skirt steak is grilled with sauce, just lightly seared on both sides. Some find it a bit salty, but I can handle it. Big pieces of meat, big mouthfuls of rice, you can finish a bowl of white rice quickly. And with a can of cola, how can you not feel great! The restaurant also recently introduced ramen, giving everyone another option. The special pork bone ramen uses my favorite thin noodles, keeping a nice texture. The toppings are very generous, with three slices of char siu and a whole soft-boiled egg, and the quality is high. That’s not all—present your receipt to get a discounted price of 15 HKD for a scoop of matcha soft serve at the neighboring Ufufu Cafe (same group). Of course, I wouldn’t miss out!
