[Easy Hiking] The Easiest Way to Hike Sections 1 & 2 of the MacLehose Trail

Even if you don't usually exercise, you can still conquer Sections 1 & 2 of the MacLehose Trail❗️ [MacLehose Trail, Hong Kong] Hiking🚶🏻‍♀️+Camping🏕️ Check out this itinerary and tips, and don't forget to save it⭐ Enjoy the beautiful spring scenery outdoors—hiking is both fun and visually stunning 📍D1 Route: Border Crossing (transfer to minibus)—Pak Tam Chung (transfer to bus 94)—Pak Tam Au—Chek Keng—Tai Long Village—Section 2 of MacLehose Trail, Ham Tin Wan (camping) Difficulty: Overall quite easy. Before reaching the campsite, it's mostly gentle slopes and flat roads, shaded by trees. There are shops and restrooms along the way. The entire journey is about 6.5 km, taking approximately 3–4 hrs to hike. 📍D2 Route: Ham Tin Wan—Sai Wan—Long Ke Wan—Section 1 of MacLehose Trail—High Island Reservoir East Dam (taxi)—University Station (subway)—Lo Wu Station (subway)—Border Crossing Difficulty: Here comes the challenge! Several steep slopes and peaks to climb, some sections are muddy slopes with no stairs, which could be dangerous in the rain. But the scenery along this section is truly breathtaking. A glimpse of the beautiful scenery when you're out of breath makes you feel rejuvenated. I took tons of amazing photos along the way; the mountains and sea are simply stunning. The final stop is the High Island Reservoir East Dam, the starting point of the hiking trail. You can take a taxi or bus here. The entire journey is about 9 km, taking approximately 5–6 hrs to hike. Essential Items: Travel permit, backpack, sports shoes, hiking poles, quick-drying clothes and pants, 2.5–3L of water (summer, single day), dry food, sunscreen, portable charger, headlamp, first aid kit, mosquito repellent, Hong Kong dollars (cash), Octopus card, camping gear (sleeping bag, toiletries, clothes, etc.) 🏕️Camping: Due to wild boars at Long Ke Wan, we chose the relatively safer Ham Tin Wan. There are small restaurants here, and you can also rent tents and sleeping bags (those with a preference for cleanliness can bring an inner liner). So, this time, I only carried a small backpack for the hike. This route is really suitable for beginner hikers. Camping by the sea is like having a panoramic ocean-view room. Watching the distant moon illuminate the sea and falling asleep to the sound of the waves is truly delightful.
