Experience the Spirit of Hong Kong: Hiking Across Lion Rock In Hong Kong, the Lion Rock Spirit represents hard work, diligence, pioneering spirit, flexibility, and self-reliance. In the 1970s, the TV series "Below the Lion Rock," which tells the story of ordinary Hong Kong citizens' struggles, caused a sensation throughout Hong Kong. The Cantonese song "Below the Lion Rock," sung by Roman Tam, was popular in both Hong Kong and mainland China. Lion Rock has thus become a symbol of the Hong Kong spirit of hard work and solidarity. To understand Hong Kong and experience the Lion Rock Spirit, the best way is to climb this mountain. We take the East Rail Line from Futian Checkpoint, and after more than half an hour, we exit from Exit C of Tai Wai Station. After walking less than 1 km along the pedestrian corridor of Hung Mui Kuk Road, we arrive at the north entrance of Lion Rock Country Park. From here, we hike up the mountain, passing Amah Rock, and then walk a section of the MacLehose Trail Section 5 eastward before reaching the summit of Lion Rock. The view from the summit is very open, offering a panoramic view of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. It's truly refreshing. Afterward, we descend towards Shatin Pass, where we can reach the renowned and popular Wong Tai Sin Temple. From there, we can take the subway back. The entire hiking route has clear signs, and the trail is mostly shaded, so it's not too sunny. The summit of Lion Rock is 495 meters above sea level, with a total climb of about 450 meters and a distance of about 8 km. Overall, it's a relatively easy hike, suitable for families with children.
