Hong Kong Off-the-Beaten-Path Hiking Route: Sheung Shui in the New Territories

During the silver grass blooming season, although Tai Tung Shan is beautiful, it is often overcrowded. I've never experienced having to queue to descend the mountain before; it was incredibly crowded. I prefer less crowded, off-the-beaten-path routes where I can quietly enjoy the pleasure of hiking. Sheung Shui Wa Shan is known as the 'Hong Kong version of the Great Wall'. Starting from Sheung Shui Fu Tei Au, the route is approximately 6 kilometers long, crossing several peaks including Cheung Po Tau, Shan Shan, Ma Tau Ling, and Chung Shan. Along the way, you can see a vast expanse of beautiful silver grass, making it a great half-day trip in Hong Kong. If you want more, you can walk along Ping Che Road to Ping Che Mural Village. After seeing Kau Kee Store, walk for about 3 minutes to see the entrance of Cheuk Wing Kee Store. For the return trip, you can take the 79K bus back to Sheung Shui or the 52K minibus to Fanling.
