Hiking in Hong Kong – Butterflies flying + the sound of running water – The Sound of Running Water and Hok Tau Reservoir

#Sign up for November Hotel Test Sleeper Since October, the weather in Hong Kong has ushered in a little autumn. Not only is it not as hot as last month, but the humidity has also dropped a lot. It is the beginning of the hiking season. This time I found a route that is not too difficult to walk, which is located in the Liushui Heung Reservoir and Hok Tau Reservoir in the Pat Sin Leng Country Park in the northeast of the New Territories. I can visit two places at once. We first took the MTR to Tai Po Market Station, then took the 20P minibus to Fung Yuen Village Station. For the first time we went to visit the Phoenix Butterfly Sanctuary to see butterflies in the wild. The conservation area is not large, so you can take a quick look. If you are not interested in butterflies, you can go up the mountain from the stairs next to it. From the mountain you can overlook the scenery of Tai Po Industrial Village. Then follow the signs on the left to the direction of Jiulongkeng Mountain/Shaluodong. On this road, you can see some abandoned villages, which gives you a feeling from the movie "A Chinese Odyssey". After passing a forest, you will hear the sound of running water, which means you will soon reach the Heshou Reservoir Dike (not the Liushuixiang Reservoir :). The pond is not very large, but it is surrounded by lush woods and is very beautiful. However, you have to be careful as there was a landslide on a certain section of the trail, and one part of the trail is particularly narrow, so you have to walk along the slope when necessary. After reading the introduction, I learned that Hesou Pond and Liushuixiang Pond were used to irrigate nearby farmland. Afterwards we walked from Heshou Pond up the mountain towards Liushuixiang Pond. Liushuixiang is also known as the Mirror of the Sky because of the bald cypress and metasequoia trees planted there. In autumn, it attracts many tourists who come to take pictures of the leaves turning yellow and red and their reflections. As autumn has just begun in Hong Kong, the leaves are still very green, but the scenery is also beautiful. You can take minibus 52B from Liushuixiang, but it may be full when there are many people. You can walk for 15 minutes to the Heshou Road terminal to wait for the bus. Tips for hiking this mountain trail: - Each person needs to buy a $20 ticket to the Butterfly Conservation Area - The hike takes about 3-4 hours (including stopping at each place to take photos), so it is best to bring plenty of water and dry food - There is no big forest to provide shade when going up the mountain from the Butterfly Conservation Area, so be prepared for enough sunscreen - If there are too many people waiting for the minibus on the way back, you can also walk out and take the 78A bus to Fanling - If you want to eat on the way back, you can go to Luen Wo Hui, where there are many delicious restaurants #香港好去处 #香港爬山线路
