Hong Kong Art Festival: Check out the treasured landmarks at low cost and fun

Hong Kong in March is filled with a strong artistic atmosphere. Various exhibitions represented by Art Basel are about to take place. While visiting the exhibitions, it is of course necessary to visit Hong Kong and explore the diverse cultural charm of this city. If you are interested in Hong Kong art and culture, you might as well check in and take photos. Most of them are free. Day ✔Tai Kwun An art gallery hidden in a "prison". It used to be the Hong Kong Police Headquarters and Victoria Prison. After renovation in 2018, the "Tai Kwun Contemporary Art Museum" was established, which hosts a series of contemporary art exhibitions and various forms of performance projects every year. Now it has become a good place for citizens to relax and have fun. The group exhibition project currently being presented, "Green Snake: Female-centered Ecology" (until April 1, 2024), explores the connection between art and ecology and the possibility of deriving other ecological relationships through various myths and worldviews centered on women. ✔PMQ "PMQ" is the abbreviation of "Police Married Quarters" and together with Tai Kwun at the other end of Hollywood Road, it constitutes a wonderful example of the revitalization of ancient buildings in Hong Kong. PMQ is a Grade 3 historic building in Hong Kong. It used to be the Police Married Quarters on Hollywood Road and has witnessed many stories of the past. After revitalization, it has been transformed into a local iconic creative center, often hosting exhibitions of various styles, integrating art, heritage and culture. ✔Fringe Club This building has a history of more than a century. It was formerly the Hong Kong Milk Company. It has now been revitalized into an art exhibition and performance venue and is also one of the landmarks of Central. 🚇Transportation: Take the MTR to Central Station Exit C and walk for about 15 minutes 💰 Fee: The above check-in spots are all free~ Day ✔M+ Museum M+, Hong Kong's new cultural landmark, is located in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong. It is dedicated to collecting, displaying and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving images, and Hong Kong visual culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum has a large exhibition space, three cinemas and rich moving images. The entire building, from the overall to the details, is as dazzling as a work of art, and you can spend most of the day visiting it. ✔Hong Kong Palace Museum It will be officially opened to the public in 2022. Apart from the red walls and gates that imitate the style of the Forbidden City, the entire venue is filled with a modern atmosphere. Take a look at the cultural relics here and then go to the viewing platforms on the second and fourth floors. Day After the busy schedule of the first two days, you can relax on the third day. Central in Hong Kong is one of the most charming areas in the city. H Queen's, located at 80 Queen's Road Central, is also worth a visit. It is a 24-story building built specifically for art galleries. Galleries including David Zwirner, Whitestone, Pace, and Tang Center for Contemporary Art are all gathered here. 💰Cost: Galleries are free to visit! There are many delicious dessert shops and brunch places in Central. You can also go to COA for a drink in the evening. I highly recommend this top 1 bar in Asia. Remember to go early to queue up. Accommodation recommendation: Because I was going to Basel for the exhibition, I was recommended to stay at Ming Yi Hotel Hong Kong MGallery near Wan Chai. The Japanese-style room I stayed in felt very good and the breakfast was delicious. You can also choose Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island, which has larger rooms. In general, the cost of an art trip to Hong Kong is up to each individual, but it is truly an eye-opener. Let’s meet at the Art Basel in March!
