Mindfulness meditation is popular nowadays, and Go was a form of meditation for the ancient Chinese. Silent upon picking up a piece, slow in moving a piece. It seems that the two players are motionless in their game, but in their minds, there are already tumultuous waves and strategic planning. I think, the Upper house in Hong Kong, is probably one of the earliest hotels to immerse the sensory experience of meditation into the hotel experience. 13 years ago, Andre Fu astonished Hong Kong with his first hotel design. The minimalist design with raw wood, the pairing of black and grey details, the spacious bathrooms, surrounded by mountains and sea, have shaped the hotel's style of tranquility and simplicity, leading the hotel industry trend to this day. 10 years ago, I went to Hong Kong for Lasik surgery at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, and stayed at this hotel. Because I was wearing an eye mask, I couldn't see clearly, but I remember living there very comfortably. It was only when I took off the eye mask that I could see all the details of the room and the view of Victoria Harbour outside the floor-to-ceiling windows clearly for the first time, feeling like I was reborn with surprise. The name of this hotel is Upper house Yi Residence. The guest rooms start from the 38th floor, through the handrail elevator that resembles the layered illusion of Kyoto's Torii gates ⛩️, opening a tranquil journey through time and space. Entering the guest room, the living room faces the seascape of Victoria, and the bedroom faces the mountain view. Next to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, there are some long cushions seemingly thrown around casually, inviting guests to while away the time amidst the scenery. The hotel's guest receptionist Edward has been working here since the hotel was preparing to open. To welcome my arrival, he decorated the entire hotel room like my home. At the entrance, the drawing board reads 'Welcome home', and I lingered there for a long time, feeling warm inside. On the coffee table, there is a crystal photo frame with specially selected photos from different countries and cities I have visited in recent years, witnessing my growth and maturity over the years. There is a yoga mat and yoga brick on the sofa, and the side table has collected yoga photos I took in various countries, arranged into a photo frame with the caption: Congratulations on becoming a representative of the World Yoga Federation. During my stay, the hotel was offering a Summer room package, which not only arranged airport pick-up, room discounts, free breakfast and cocktails, but also gave away many summer gifts. The gifts included Supergoop! sunscreen, Sunnies Studios sunglasses, Upper house's own brand of aromatherapy and a thermos cup, all thoughtful presents. So many carefully prepared gifts, each one I couldn't bear to part with, each one felt like a decoration that only a home would have, from now on I want to call it Upper Home Yi Home, my home in Hong Kong. Every time I think of it, my heart feels warm.
