The seventh stop of hiking in Hong Kong—MacLehose Trail Section 1 and Po Pin Chau

After finishing Hong Kong Island, we moved to the New Territories and finally decided to challenge the MacLehose Trail. MacLehose Trail Section 1 is basically walking on the road, not difficult. Some people think the scenery is not good enough and suggest skipping it, but I think it's not bad. Take bus 94 from Sai Kung Pier, or 96R from Diamond Hill, get off at "Sheung Yiu" station, and go forward 50 meters to the starting point of the MacLehose Trail (Figure 2). You can also get off at the previous station "Pak Tam Chung", where there are supplies and toilets, but you have to walk nearly 1 kilometer more. Then there is 1 kilometer uphill, to the pavilion in Figure 3, follow the right hand side, turn into flat and downhill. There are some uphill roads later. There are two viewing spots along the way (Figures 4 and 5), with beautiful scenery. The left hand side is High Island Reservoir, very open, Figure 6 is the west dam of the reservoir. The characteristic of this road is that you can see many cows along the way (Figure 10), of course, there are cow dung all over the road, be careful when walking. Walk about 9 kilometers to the east dam of High Island Reservoir, Figures 11 and 12 are the signs at both ends of the east dam. Walk up the mountain road after Figure 11, cross two mountains, and you can see the famous Po Pin Chau (Figures 1 and 17). Although the road is not easy to walk, the sea view along the way is also spectacular. Po Pin Chau is the back pattern of the Standard Chartered Bank version of the 500 Hong Kong dollar bill, you can bring one next time. You can see the panoramic view of Po Pin Chau from the east dam (Figure 18). This area is a famous diving spot, the boats in Figure 19 are all for diving, but it seems that there is no business now. If you don't want to walk the first section and just want to go to Po Pin Chau and the second section, you can take the 9A minibus directly to the east dam (Figure 20) at the Pak Tam Chung bus station. However, 9A is only available on weekends, and you can only take a taxi on weekdays. I saw green and red taxis coming and going all the way, all of them were people who came to hike and check in.
