Haw Par Villa and its attached private garden were built in 1935 by Hu Wenhu, also known as the "Tiger Balm King". It was rated as a Grade I historic building in 2009. You can now make an appointment online to join a guided tour of Haw Par Villa, which will allow you to visit the villa’s private garden and most of its interior spaces, and learn more about its architectural style and cultural value. Architecturally, Haw Par Villa combines Chinese and Western architectural styles. Its design is more Westernized and symmetrical, with porches, windowsills and fireplaces. As for the interior architecture, the villa is equipped with magnificent Italian painted glass windows. This Chinese Renaissance architectural style is very unique in Hong Kong.
