Incredible views on MacLehose Trail section 1

There is no pedestrian road in Bangi Pass, pay attention to the entry and exit of vehicles, and try not to walk in the middle of the road. About 3.3 kilometers from the starting point is the West Dam M007 of the Bangi Reservoir, and the bell-shaped siphon drain of the Bangi Reservoir on the left, marked by sky-blue water. Looking at the Bangi Reservoir is very healing, and any location can be a check-in point. As the supply of water storage in Hong Kong exceeded the demand, the Government started construction of the Man Yi Reservoir in 1971, and by 1979 it had been officially supplied with water, becoming the largest reservoir in Hong Kong, with a capacity of 281 million cubic meters and an average annual water catchment of about 45 million cubic meters. After skimming the top of the Great Snake, it is the longest uphill at about M010, rising from 80 to about 133 meters above sea level, which is the highest point in the whole process. After that, the road conditions returned to flattening, and soon arrived at the beautiful East Dam. #sai kung #hiking

The MacLehose Trail

From Tuen Mun’s So Kwun Wat Tsuen, taking the Maclehose trails sec 10, follow the signs to Thousand Lake / Reservoir Islands Viewpoint. We drove to So Kwun Wat Tsuen, where parking spaces are offered by the villagers for a price ($70 to $100). From here, it’s all paved road for about 45mins to 1 hour where you’ll reach a viewpoint with signboard showing another 1km to Reservoir Island viewpoint and a cubicle toilet next to it. If you’re travelling with young children or strollers, this may be your endpoint for the hike. But if you want a better view! Keep going, the remaining 1km are pretty straightforward in the woods, there’s a clear path, just watch out the roots and rocks. When you see the signboard of Thousand Lake/ Reservoir Islands viewpoint, the stairs are right next to it, just climb up and keep walking. You’ll know when you arrived. * Distance: approx. 7.7km round trip * Altitudes: 296m * Time: approx 2 hours 40 mins * Toilet: Public toilet before the starting point at the village; then cubicle toilet after an hour walk * Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️ (although mostly paved road, but it’s ascending/ inclines like 80% of the time) * Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ X #hongkongkids #familyhiking #hikingkids #familytime #hongkongmoms #hikinghk #nature #hikingtrails #hiking
