Hidden ruins in the city

During the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, in order to prevent the opium trade and pirate invasions, the Qing navy upgraded the nearby Dapeng Camp to Dapeng Association, which consisted of two camps, the left and the right. The headquarters and the left camp were located in the Dapeng Fortress in Shenzhen, while the right camp was stationed in the newly built Tung Chung Fortress, which was completed in 1832 (some say 1817) and equipped with 6 cannons to control sea traffic. In 1898, Britain leased the New Territories and the fort was abandoned. From 1938 to 1940, it was used as the temporary school building of Foshan Huaying Middle School, the Tung Chung Rural Committee and later became part of the site of Tung Chung Public School. Tung Chung Public School was closed in 2003. During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, the fort was rebuilt by the Japanese army. After the reconstruction of the fort, the site of the fort was used as a police station. The site of the fort was declared a statutory monument in Hong Kong on August 24, 1979 and was fully renovated in 1988. It now also serves as the office and exhibition hall of the Tung Chung Rural Committee and the office of the Tung Chung Chamber of Commerce. There are direct buses from Tung Chung Bus Terminal, or you can ride a bicycle there, cross the overpass from North Lantau Hospital and head straight into the mountain. After getting off the bridge, turn right, cross the road and walk about 100 meters along the cycle path. When you see the Auxiliary Medical Service Office on the opposite street, cross the road and go straight up along the isolated path (in fact, you can see it with your own eyes). The fort is an old walled city with 5 cannons on the wall. You can climb up the wall via several stairs, but be careful because there is no fence on the wall. It's not big inside, but most of it is well maintained and intact. You can wait for about half an hour to take photos. #Local Tour
