Nan Fung Spinning Mill’s fifth anniversary brings more diverse cultural experiences

Hong Kong's popular cultural, creative and leisure landmark "Nan Fung Spinning Mills" is entering its fifth anniversary this year and is bringing a series of exciting activities to inject new vitality into the landmark! During Mother's Day and Father's Day, a half-day parent-child tour was organized with the full support of Lee Kum Kee and co-organized with the social enterprise "Shang Shang Gao Tang". Three generations of the family were invited to tour the Nan Fung Spinning Mill together. Under the guidance of the tour guide, they explored how the old factory building was revitalized into a new cultural and creative landmark, and then went to the farmland of the spinning mill to harvest seasonal vegetables. Finally, they would use Lee Kum Kee's high-quality sauces to make summer snacks together and enjoy parent-child time. In June this year, CHAT Sixth Studio brought the 2023 Summer Exhibition themed on a generation of Chinese pop music legend Pan Dihua (Sister Pan) "She Can Give Me Sunshine in the Dark - Dedicated to Pan Dihua". The exhibition was planned in close communication between the curatorial team and Sister Pan. It displays many treasured photos, costumes, records, news clippings, documents and personal belongings, etc., reviewing Sister Pan’s brilliant acting career spanning three decades. CHAT Factory 6 will also exhibit for the first time a large-scale commissioned video installation by Hong Kong artist Cheng Deyan, creating a novel exhibition experience. In addition, video clips shot over the years by Pan’s younger generation Chen Songqi and never before seen will be displayed throughout the exhibition, presenting the audience with a different kind of daily life and the cultural heritage therein. During the summer vacation, the spinning mill will once again hold the "Spinning Mill Children's Festival". In line with the nostalgic theme of the exhibition, the "tea dance culture" popular in the 1950s and 1960s was taken as the main theme, and a unique interactive experience was conceived with the famous musician Feng Yingqi. This includes a children's "Tea Dance" dance workshop, where children can learn about the basic steps and dressing styles of the tea dance and understand the Hong Kong culture of the past. The event will also feature a nostalgic dance floor, inviting children and adults to dance together to promote cross-generational integration and communication. In addition, the "Spinning Factory Children's Festival" has also prepared a series of parent-child activities as in the past, such as markets, parent-child workshops and spinning factory tours, hoping to inspire children's infinite creativity and imagination through interesting interactive exchanges and sensory stimulation, and enjoy simple happiness together. The Mill will collaborate with local illustrator Cher to feature her cute original character “Cou1mei4” throughout the event to create a joyful summer vacation atmosphere. The annual event "WeWeave Knitting Lifestyle Festival" will also return in November and December: the event will combine different experiences and elements, and invite the public to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Nan Fung Spinning Mills through a rich and exciting local music and art experience! To welcome the new milestone, the mill’s famous “check-in spot”, “Traces of Weaving”, which is based on the historical stories of Hong Kong’s textile industry, will also be renovated in November, presenting a new look to continue the community’s shared memories and imagination. The Mill team also plans to upcycle the original “Trace Weaving” materials into Christmas decorations at Christmas, giving them new life, in line with the Mill’s culture of celebrating festivals with art and environmentally friendly elements.
