HKWALLS, the annual Hong Kong Street Art and Mural Festival, came to its 8th edition this year and saw seven of the more than 20 murals in the Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island , not only the weather is unpredictable such as rain, humidity, sun, even inhaled car exhaust on the roadside or back alley spraying oil smoke and other problems, because the creation time of each mural, depending on the size, most take several days to a week to complete. In addition to local artists, six internationally renowned mural and street artists include French muralist Matthieu Koga, known for his ironic metaphors and colorful use; Symbols are based on Berlin-based art team INNERFIELDS, who creates realistic, natural-environment-related works; ’s work exudes a bold and rebellious attitude, striving to bring elements of fantasy and narrative fluidity into the character’s personality. A number of local painters and artists participated in Hong Kong (see map for details) HKwalls, which is committed to injecting a new vibe into local street art, also trains talented young artists through the Teachers and Friends Art Program supported by CASETiFY, providing them with learning and experiential opportunities to enhance their artistic skills and try new techniques to learn how to translate creative ideas into painted murals. This is the fourth year of the program, and three groups of selected trainees and their mentors, including Grace Kam and Zoie Lam, Reana Bachiller and Mooncasket, and Timmy Lee and Carol Mui and Rebecca T Lin, will work together to create three murals especially for the festival, which will be displayed near the Central Waterfront Ferris Wheel. HKwalls will also present a spectacular large-scale animated art work designed by renowned Spanish artist J. Demsky on the exterior walls of the Tsim Sha Tsui Center and the Empire Center facing Victoria Harbour, with the support of Sinwa Group. The work shows a skyline designed inspired by science fiction.
