Perfect fusion of 3 cultures in this house

Beside Chua Cau (Japanese Bridge), Phung Hung Ancient House is another famous architectural building in Hoi An, considered cultural heritage of the town. With over 200 years old, the house is a typical commercial house, prossesing unique structure with high wooden logs and broad corridors, reflecting the development and fusion of Asian architectural styles in Hoi An in the past centuries. Phung Hung Ancient House is located at 4 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, which is a minute walk to Japanese Bridge. The house was built in 1780 – the flourishing period of Hoi An urban. The first owner of this house was a Vietnamese merchant. He named the house “Phung Hung”, meaning “Prosper” with the desire to be always successful. In the past, the house was a shop selling forest products such as cinnamon, pepper, salt, silk, chinaware and glassware. The present owner is the eighth descendant who are still living in and preserving this old house. This is one of the most impressive architectural buildings in Hoi an. #bucketlistreboot
