Built by early Fujian immigrants to Hoi An, it boasts a history of over 300 years. It serves not only as a gathering place for expatriates but also as a vital venue for the transmission of faith and culture. Approaching the guild hall, the first thing that catches your eye is the exquisite gate. Its vermilion walls, green tile eaves, and intricate colored porcelain carvings vividly depict dragons, phoenixes, and traditional auspicious motifs. Stepping over the threshold, guarded by stone lions, the courtyard is filled with the scent of incense, creating a solemn atmosphere. Central to the main hall is the statue of Mazu (Tian Hou, the Queen of Heaven), the guardian of seafarers. With her benevolent gaze cast down, she offers a benevolent protection, a spiritual solace for the merchants and fishermen who once crossed the sea from Fujian. The hall also enshrines deities such as Guanyin and the God of Wealth, while the wood carvings and couplets hanging on both sides bear witness to the continuation of Chinese culture in a foreign land.
