Brief History: In 1868, French colonists built Norodom Palace in Saigon for the Governor-General of Indochina. In 1954, the Geneva Accords were signed, France withdrew from Vietnam, and Norodom Palace was renamed Independence Palace. In 1962, two planes attacked Independence Palace. In 1966, the new Independence Palace was completed. In 1975, the Independence Palace was liberated by Vietnam, Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City, and the Independence Palace was renamed Reunification Palace. 🏛️ The architect of Reunification Palace was Ngo Viet Thu, who studied in France. The overall layout is in the shape of the Chinese character "吉" (meaning "lucky"). Many elements of the interior decoration are derived from Chinese culture.
