Sophia Cathedral in Harbin

The most well-known landmark in Harbin has to be the famous St Sophia Cathedral. This Byzantine style church is located on Zhaolin Street, and is just a block away from Central Street. You can take a subway to Central Street Station and walk for a block or two. Originally, there was a wooden church built on this square at the beginning of the 20th century. But in 1923 a new stone church was built by the Russians. It was completed in 1932. The cathedral is open from 08:30 to 17:00 and the entrance fee is a mere 15rmb. Unfortunately when I was there it was closed. Perhaps due to the spring festival. However, I still got to admire its beauty on the outside. I find it's especially beautiful at night.
