Leshan Giant Buddha · Sichuan, China 🗿✨

#hellohalloween Leshan Giant Buddha · Sichuan, China 🗿✨ Where the Minjiang, Qingyi, and Dadu Rivers converge, an awe-inspiring figure gazes serenely across the waters — the Leshan Giant Buddha, a monumental masterpiece that has watched over the land for more than 1,200 years. Standing 71 meters tall and carved directly into the red sandstone cliffs of Mount Lingyun, this colossal statue is the world’s largest stone Buddha. Its head alone measures 14.7 meters high, while each toe could seat a full-grown person. Yet despite its immense size, the Buddha’s expression radiates calmness — eyes half-closed, lips curved in a gentle smile, embodying peace and compassion. Construction began during the Tang Dynasty (713 AD) under a Buddhist monk named Hai Tong, who hoped the Buddha’s presence would calm the turbulent river currents that endangered passing boats. It took nearly 90 years and countless hands to complete. Over the centuries, ingenious drainage systems were built into the sculpture to protect it from erosion — a testament to the wisdom and skill of ancient Chinese craftsmanship. Today, visitors can admire the Buddha from two breathtaking perspectives: from the river, where you can take in its full grandeur, or from the mountain trail, walking beside the statue to appreciate its intricate details up close. As mist rises over the confluence and sunlight brushes against the ancient stone, the Buddha seems alive — timeless, tranquil, and eternal. A journey to Leshan is not just a trip to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but a quiet pilgrimage into the heart of Chinese faith, art, and history. 📍 Leshan, Sichuan Province 📸 XHS @我要去看看
